Carolyn and her family have owned and operated Wachusett Mountain Ski Area since the 70's – turning Wachusett from a sleepy little local ski area into one of the premier medium-sized metro ski resorts in the US. Situated just 1 hour west of Boston, Wachusett is close to a population base of more than 8 million people with a focus on introducing new skiers and riders to the sport & growing the ski industry. Last year, Wachusett received the prestigious NSAA Conversion Cup for having the best program in the US for converting 1st timers into lifelong enthusiasts. With day/night operations Wachusett averaging 375,000 skier visits annually. Some of Wachusett’s innovative programs include its expansive School Group offerings with more than 10,000 students weekly; its NASTAR Night League Racing – the largest in the US; a Ski Train service from Boston to its own Wachusett station providing a public transportation option to Boston’s colleges and international visitors; and one of the most efficient ski and snowboard rental operations in the ski industry. Carolyn and her two brothers, Jeff and David, oversee Wachusett’s daily operations and team of 1200 employees while her other two brothers, Ralph and Chris, run the family’s other business – Polar Beverages – the largest independent soft drink company in the country. Many of Wachusett’s operations are modeled after the beverage business working to get customers out of the slopes quickly (and most friendly way possible). Carolyn also enjoys skiing, hiking & biking with her husband, 3 sons, & 2 dogs.
