Barry Gifford is the CEO of Day 8; the market leader in millennial experiential travel. Within the group’s portfolio of brands are The Yacht Week and The Ski Week- seven days of sea or snow filled adventure for young professionals operating in eight locations around the world.
Day 8’s roots as the ultimate getaway operated by a group of university friends seem like a world away from the international travelling venture it has evolved into over the last 13 years. Today, over 100,000 individuals from around the world count themselves as part of the ‘Day 8’ family; a community forged from adventurous spirits, vast open waters, epic mountains and a host of musicians, collaborators, sailors, skiers and revelers.
Founded in 2014, The Ski Week is the younger, colder sister to The Yacht Week. Put simply, it’s a series of week-long boutique ski festivals that take place in handpicked mountain towns across the world; a celebration of skiing and boarding enhanced by open-air après-ski parties, long table brunches, snow-ga and the infamous Pond Skim competitions. Open to a global community of like-minded, free-spirited young professionals, every element of The Ski Week is celebrated by a melting-pot of mixed internationals.
Barry started his career in South Africa running restaurants and hotel chains before moving to London in 2001 where he worked in private equity. For the last 6 years he has been working within the holiday and experiential travel market. Barry’s enthusiasm and belief in the innovation of Day 8’s product line has been instrumental in maintaining their position as market leader. His knowledge of the changing market and dedication to ensuring guest experience is as the forefront of the business is what continues to set Day 8 apart from competitors.
