for destinations and resorts marketers

Destinations@MTS is an executive level event during the Forum. Sessions are interactive and take advantage of the expertise in the audience from resorts and destinations around the world. Intimate by design, D@MTS includes approximately 75-100 industry professionals focused on destination and resort marketing.

For the 2019 version of this Destinations@MTS, we are going to be tackling critical topics for mountain destinations, with industry experts who are prepared to make you really dig in and think about the most important issues facing destinations today. Three in-depth presentations are followed by interactive "table talk" where all attendees work together to discuss, debate and respond to the topics presented.

Do you represent a destination marketing organization or a mountain resort? If you do, Destinations@MTS is designed for you.

The Mountain IDEAL: A Framework for Better Destinations, Better World
Join a fast growing network of tourism professionals working to elevate quality and communicate the unique characteristics of their destinations while making the world a better place. The "Mountain IDEAL" is a framework to help you and your mountain destination create a long-term vision that embraces: Innovation, Diversity, Education, Authenticity, and Leadership.  As one of the most powerful industries in world, tourism can either be a force for good, or, if lacking a long-term vision and left unmanaged, it can erode a destination's unique natural and community heritage. Mountain destinations are poised to take a leadership role. During this workshop you'll learn about and apply the "Mountain IDEAL" to develop meaningful methods that will enhance your profession and your destination.

Place and Purpose: Do destinations need a brand purpose?
We live in an Instagram-able world where trust for institutions generally and marketing specifically is eroding. In response to these forces, the concept of brand purpose is a hot topic in marketing and branding. But how does brand purpose apply to destination marketers? Do place brands need a purpose? If so, how do you land on an authentic one? How do you bring it to life? In this interactive session, purpose and place branding specialists from Origin and Stormy Lake will share current thinking and best practices on purpose-driven place branding, followed by an opportunity for attendees to apply learnings in a facilitated workshop.

Building an award-winning Service Leadership program for your community
In 2014, the Whistler Chamber of Commerce and the University of Victoria‘s Gustavson School of Business partnered to deliver The Whistler Experience®, a service leadership program for the community. Since then, this award-winning program has united Whistler’s destination partners and the business community behind the vision to become the No. 1 resort in the world known for excellent customer service. Hear how the implementation of this innovative program helped guest satisfaction (as measured by the resort’s service values) increase in spite of an ongoing labour shortage. Join us to learn how your destination can also build a resort-wide service culture that engages participants and drives results.
